Midterm

First Part:

Dear Kyle,

How have you been? Just going to tell you about my English 1102 class I’m taking this semester. I know you were telling me something about you needing to take an English class next semester to finish your English’s for your Criminal Justice Degree. This class I’m in now, English 1102, is an awesome class taught by an amazing teacher Ms. Ingram. I am learning so many new things when it comes to research and learning how to proof read my own papers. In high school, you know we had to write the research paper in tenth grade and then write our senior exit paper. We used so much time trying to find out more information on our subjects and researching for so long because our teachers never gave us any guidance. In my English class this semester, I have learned how to write an Annotated Bibliography, and now learning how to write a 3-sided paper. The way the class is taught in the manner of how classwork and homework is done, makes the students use their combined knowledge and working together in order to complete assignments. This creates friendships and allows you to learn new things from your peers in the class that maybe you did not understand what Ms. Ingram was talking about and they can talk more one on one and on your level as a student. I’d figure I’ll let you know about this since this is not an easy class but a very good one that is more aimed toward learning how to write and how to perform researching better.

Second Part:
Since I have been in English 1102, I have written some pretty detailed and lengthy papers. The one that I can say I am the most proud of myself would be “What’s it Like to Be You?” essay. This is an essay that I cannot just turn in for a grade, but also show to my friends and family. I decided to write this piece because this is a paper that means a lot to me. I know I just wrote it a month and half ago, but it still represents my life and some important decisions I made along the way. I got my ideas from all the events in my life that have led me to be the person I am today. Becoming a volunteer firefighter, has really changed me because I am going to college for a Fire Safety Engineering Technology degree and now my future career and goal is to become a professional firefighter with Charlotte Fire Department. The audience of this essay was anyone in my class, Ms. Ingram and all of my friends and family. They affected how I wrote the essay because at first I didn’t want to be everyone to know all about my life and all the troubles that mean my family have gone though. This made me realize that not everyone is perfect and writers write about their misfortunes all the time, since this is a writing class I went all in. While writing this piece I continued to work on proof reading my own drafts, and working on writing and including a lot of detail. This was easier for me to start off and write about detail about my own life because I know all the details, and figured this was getting me ready for the nest assignment which was a research paper, which has a lot of detail in it. This piece for me was really easy for me to write about because it was my life and I knew all of the details about it and how everything made me for who I am. The parts that I revisited, to put more detail in were my childhood. Most people know I went to high school and in college now, since I’m I go to UNCC. No one really knows my childhood, or all what happened to I focused on that part to put the most emphasis on. I took a risk my writing about my personal life and including a lot of detail in it which a lot of people other than my family know about. Nothing really I read influenced my writing because it was my life so therefore I was writing about what I have gone through and want makes me who I am. I learned that in order to write a paper about your personal life it is important to include a lot of detail and make the reader feel like he or she is your shoes at that particular moment. I learned that often at points I get to greedy and I need to more thankful for what I have. If it would not have been for my Paw Paw buying me saving bonds, I would not be in college write now writing about this paper. I expect the reader to learn about my all of my life and some detail about it. I’m going to revise it and look for places I can put more detail in. I am also going to work on my proof reading, because I’m trying to get that almost perfect so I have less run-on sentences and misspelled words in my paper.

Third Part:
I really liked the book Peace Butter & Jelly because all of the great detail and some of the recipes in the book. I also think it is a good book because the author of the book came and talked to our class which made it cool that we read a book and got to talk to the author. This would be a good because this will give David another opportunity to see what people our age have to say about his book.

Fourth Blog

While writing this blog I have really learned the importance of obtaining information and being able to write about my topic for my peers and teacher to comment on. I really like how it is not only open to where my peers can look at it but also, anyone else who has a blogger account and he or she can follow me. The importance of this blog and what I have learned is that detailed research is the key to writing this blog. If I would have just winged it when it came to my research, I would have not been able to write as much and the blogs would have been less detailed. My writing process has changed a little because in the aspect of me being able to pull more information out of my resources and putting them on my blog and expanding on the information to let my peers and teacher know what I am writing about. My inquiries that I had for my topic have not really changed because I have just expanded on those questions not really changed them.

The genre of blogging we are using for this research project is really helpful for our process which allows our peers and teacher to respond to what we are writing about and what we are researching for that particular week. The coolest thing to me, not being the blogger type of person, it’s pretty cool that I am writing all of this and anyone can read about this and respond. Blogging is something I could actually see getting myself into, if it was something I would lile to write about like firefighting tactics or something to do with firefighting. To sum up all of these main points about blogging, it has helped me a lot because after I have sat down and researched my topics I go and reread some of my points and write about them on blogger. This allows me to refresh my mind and look at the information in a different aspect.

Third Post

1)      I’ll be writing to the readers that will read my paper including Ms. Ingram, and my classmates. I think I can go with my classmates and peers being my audience because those are who I am talking to about this paper and research to get their input. Yes I can see how my topic is timely because of the way the studies I have been researching are changing with this day and age. I’m invested in this topic because this is a big subject. I’ve been raised in church and sex before marriage is frowned upon but sex is proven to help with stress relief and good for the body. My high school teachers were crazy and had us write about topics without any personal investment to see how much we knew about pointless subject and people like Shakespeare and The Odyssey. College teachers actually want to hear and read what we have to say and think about our subject we are writing about.

2)      Yes, I’m starting to see a lot of different viewpoints in my research based on:

-Religion

-Race

-Gays

-Men

-Women

3)      Well I learned in my research this week that a lot of old people are encouraged to have sex because it is good for their heart, blood pressure, and keeps the hormones balance in check in their body. I’ve learned this is no easy way of researching last minute and needs to be detailed in order to research accurately.

Second Blog

1) The most interesting source so far that I have found was “5 Reasons to have sex today”. The source is a health website pertaining to food, health, pets, spiritual, and love and sex. The author of this article is Veronica Peterson. This article is interesting because it describes all the aspects of sex to physical needs, and also why it is good for emotions and day to day life. The article lists 5 reasons that sex is healthy and why this is a good thing for people. Sex boosts your immune system by allowing the person to relieve stress which is sometimes can cause major headaches. Sex also burns calories because this is a physical activity that burns fat. Third, sex relieves pain by allowing a partner to have an orgasm, which is a major narcotic which contains oxytocin which is produced by the body. Sex decreases aging because regular sex releases a lot of so called good chemicals into your bloodstream which allows your body to develop healthier. Lastly, sex is great for depression because the release from an orgasm makes a person very relaxed and feels a lot better. These were the five reasons that I found on the website, which was my first source that explains why sex is good and also provides stress relief.

2) As I continued to research, the main topic has not changed. I’ve looked over my inquiry questions but haven’t really revised my questions, because most of them in trying to research. I’m narrowing the questions down, for example asking the question “Is sex bad for some people?”, I’m researching why it is bad or what makes it not good for someone. The narrowing of my scope on my topic will allow me to learn more about the topic, help me to understand the research I gathered, and to help me write the paper better with a better understanding of my topic.

3) I’m facing the challenge of finding sources that directly relates to stress relief. In most of the sources I’m coming across, I’m finding sex studies that deal with age and stuff that is too much information to know. I’m addressing these challenges by being careful about what I put in the search bar on Google. I really don’t have so called “tips” to give my peers other than focus on your topic and don’t be too broad when researching. I guess I’m trying to say, be detailed when you are researching your topic so you can get better information.

First Blog

1) My research question is "Is sex a stress reliever?"
2) I settled with this question because I thought it was interesting. Were college kids and everyone is experimenting and wondering if this actually helps with stress.
3) My topic is timely because there are a lot of resources in the library and studies performed by universities all over the world. It is important to address the topic because everyone has some stress some with more than others and most people have sex. People should care because stress often refers people making poor decisions and everybody thinks about sex.
4) I expect to find experiments done, surveys taken, and other necessary research taken by the different agencies involved in the study. I have typed in Google and the library website and most of the sites were from universities.
5) Yes, I have come across scholars and Ph.D. that have studied this question and have written reports about the subject pertaining to sex and stress. They are finding that are it is a stress reliever and a lot of people are using this as a stress reliever according to some surveys I have looked at on Google posted by universities in their studies. There are a lot of different viewpoints. I'm writing in my view point and in my viewpoint only. If the reader does not like what I am writing about then stop reading it! I stand on the issue that it does provide stress relief and incases make a person more relaxed. I honestly don't know if my mind will change later in the semester, but honestly I do not think so.
6) The only question I have is about how exactly how to format the paper.
